Worcester Bowl
The Worcester (Massachusetts) Area Chamber of Commerce in 1961
established a trophy for the varsity heavyweight eight race.
The trophy is held for one year by the winning college. The
United Sates Navel Academy was the first crew to hold the Bowl.
In 1962 the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University
tied for the honor. In 1963, Cornell University took the award even
thought the Big Red had lost to the World Champion Ratzeburg Rowing
Club. The Germans were not eligible for the Worcester Bowl
but received a special EARC trophy to commemorate their
victory.
