Brown University Wins Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy for Third Consecutive Year
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Brown University has earned the 2009 ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy. It is the third consecutive year that the Bears have won the ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy. The ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy is given annually to the ECAC college or university men’s and women’s rowing programs that best demonstrate the core values of the ECAC (tradition, diversity, and service), and the values of Turfer Athletic (determination, perseverance, resilience, and commitment). The award is based on the total overall performance of the team’s varsity, second varsity, and novice eights at the EARC and EAWRC Sprints, including men’s heavyweight and lightweight entries, and women’s open weight entries. The Bears will receive the trophy on Tuesday, October 6, at the ECAC Honors Luncheon presented by Jostens. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2009 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show.

The ECAC Internship and Mentoring Initiative: Connecting Student-Athletes with Children at Youth Organizations through Recreational Activities
Cape Cod, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Associate Commissioner for Internal Affairs/Senior Woman Administrator Dea Shipps is pleased to announce the implementation of the ECAC Internship and Mentoring Initiative. The ECAC Internship and Mentoring Initiative is a pilot program dedicated to connecting ECAC member student-athletes with youth organizations that provide recreational opportunities to underserved children in Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. Student-athletes are able to choose from a wide variety of internship and mentoring opportunities while enhancing the diversity programming and educational outreach of member institutions.

ECAC to Hold Night with the Olympians at Annual Convention
In conjunction with its upcoming annual convention and trade show in Albany, N.Y., the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), will be hosting two events honoring Olympians who were former ECAC student-athletes. Already confirmed for the event are Jeff Blatnick (Springfield College), Bill Cleary (Harvard University), John Gregorek (Georgetown University), Michelle Guerette (Harvard University/Radcliffe College), Jason Morris (Syracuse University), Zara Northover (Northeastern University) and Helen Resor (Yale University). Combined, those seven Olympians were selected to 14 Olympic teams and won six medals, including two golds and three silvers.

Stacey Rippetoe Named Head Coach of Boston University
Boston,Mass. - Stacey Rippetoe, who helped guide the Michigan State women’s rowing team to two Big Ten Championships and a program-best sixth-place team points finish at the 2008 NCAA Championships regatta, has been named the head coach at Boston University, Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Lynch announced today.
