Week 3: Temple's McLaughlin Named Gymnast of the Week

Gymnast of the Week:

Pat McLaughlin-Temple

Senior, Shrewsbury, Mass.

In a homecoming event for the Owls, McLaughlin scored a season best 87.0 to capture the all-around as Temple (343.75) withstood a strong challenge from 2009 ECAC Team champion Illinois-Chicago (338.20). In addition, he took first place on three events - floor exercise (15.0), pommel horse (13.95), and horizontal bar (14.55) and posted a second on vault (15.8) to teammate Evan Burke (15.85). McLaughlin was named a 2009 first-team All-America Scholar athlete, and was also a four time Junior Olympic qualifier.

 

 

Rookie of the Week:

Keith Lage- Illinois-Chicago

Freshman, Naperville, Ill.

Lage had previously only worked pommel horse for the Flames, yet was pressed into action on floor exercise and rings as well as horse in their meet with Temple.  It was the first NCAA competition for him on floor and rings. Lage captured first place on rings (14.30) over teammate David Ishida and Temple's Chris Mooney who tied for second (14.1) and also counted for the Flames on floor exercise (13.75).
