Week 7: Temple's Blake Collins Named Gymnast of the Week

Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League Weekly Release

Gymnast of the Week:

Blake Collins-Temple
Junior, Columbia, Md.

Collins placed second in the all-around (82.75) as Temple (336.2) edged William & Mary (334.75) in Williamsburg.  He sat out his freshman year as a redshirt when he could not make the squad and is in his first year working the all-around for the Owls.  He also placed first on rings with a score of 14.25.  He attended Wide Lake High School and received his early training at Top Flight Gymnastics under Dmitry Gavrilyulk in Columbia, Md.  He is a Public Relations major and was a five-time Junior Olympic qualifier.

Rookie of the Week:

Alex Tighe-Temple
Freshman, Brookfield, Wis.

Tighe worked four events, counting on three, as the Owls closed out their regular season with a win over William & Mary.  A 14.60 score on horizontal bar was good enough for first place. Tighe received his early training under Stacy Maloney at the Swiss Turners.  As a high school senior he ranked first in the region and fourth nationally on horizontal bar.  An undeclared major, he was a four-time Academic All-American at Brookfield East High School.
