Week 8: William & Mary's Gygax and Navy's Parrot Share Gymnast of the Week Award

Co-Gymnasts of the Week:

Derek Gygax-William & Mary
Senior, Stevensville, Md. 

 Gygax posted an 85.45 all-around score to tie for first place with Nash Mills of the Air Force Academy at the 2010 USAG Collegiate Championships at the Air Force Academy.  Along the way he placed second on both pommel horse (14.55) and parallel bars (14.25),   and added a third place finish on horizontal bar (13.7).  He received his early training at Clark's Gymnastics in Maryland and has been the leading William & Mary scorer for much of the season.  He is a 2010 Nissen-Emery nominee and has previously earned first team Academic All-America honors. 

Dylan Parrot-U.S. Naval Academy
Junior, Rockwell, N.C.

Parrot won two events at the USAG Collegiate Gymnastics Championship in Cadet West gym at the Air Force Academy.  The reigning floor exercise champion, he captured the event for a second year with a score of 14.75.  Parrot also won the horizontal bar title, capturing the event with a 14.3 score.  In addition he placed sixth on vault (14.7) and fourth on parallel bars (14.15) on his way to earning All-America honors. He is a Systems Engineering major.

 

Rookie of the Week:

Kyle Voissem- University of Illinois-Chicago
Freshman, West Allis, Wis.

Voissem placed second in the all-around (85.55) to senior teammate Andrew Stover (86.50) as UIC (342.6) lost to the undefeated and number two ranked Stanford Cardinals (360.0) in Chicago.  Voissem attended West Allis high school and received his early training at the Swiss Turners.
