1. If selected, school be able to host a preliminary round game on Wednesday.  If selected, school  be able to host the semifinal and final rounds on Saturday and Sunday.

First Round games will be played on Wednesday, March 3rd at the top four seed campuses as long as the top seeds can host.  In the event that top seeds cannot host the lower seeded team would be given the right to host the first round game of play. (Please make sure to make arrangements with academics in mind for student athletes to travel on Weds. in order to avoid scheduling conflicts with missed class time.) 

Once the first round games are complete the highest remaining seed left in the field of four will have the right to host the championship on their campus as long as they have submitted "Yes" to hosting the championship round.

PLEASE NOTE:  All ECAC Basketball Championships are Final Four Site Championships meaning the hosting team of the semifinals will host two semifinal games on Saturday and the Championship game on Sunday.  Recommended game times are 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm for semifinals on Saturday and 2:00 pm for Championship game on Sunday.  Institutions are permitted to select their own game times for the ECAC Championships in order to properly work around previously scheduled events on their campus; however schools are encouraged to follow the recommended games times in order to properly plan the logistics of the championships for all participating parties.

  • Host institutions must supply a copy of their current general liability policy to the ECAC before the start of competition. The ECAC must be named as an additional insured on the policy for the championship dates only.
  • In the event an institution charges admission, no complimentary tickets will be issued, however tournament directors have discretionary authority to give up to 10 courtesy passes to visiting administrative personnel.

2. Host Availability & Facility Survey

Any institution wishing to host an ECAC team championship must certify that the court, which will be utilized during championship play, meets the minimum requirements as outlined in the NCAA rules book.

3.  Withdrawal Date
In accordance with ECAC Championships Bylaw 2.5 Obligation to Participate, an institution that wishes to withdraw from consideration may do so without financial penalty.  Withdrawals by an athletics administrator are due to the ECAC staff liaison by Friday February 26 for Division III at noon Eastern Time.  Institutions that withdraw after the deadline to withdraw are subject to a penalty of up to $500.00.  In order to officially withdraw from an ECAC championship you have previously declared for, you must email championships@ecac.org .

If your institution is selected to participate in an NCAA championship, said school is automatically withdrawn from consideration for the ECAC championship without penalty. 

4.  Late Declarations
Institutions may submit late declarations according to Bylaw 2.7 Late Declarations for championships, which will be accepted until noon the Wednesday before the selection date with the understanding that a fine of up to $500 will be levied by the ECAC Championships Committee.  In order to declare late for an ECAC championship you must email blayton@ecac.org  or call Ben Layton, Director of Championships at (508) 771-5060 (x243)

Please review all ECAC Championship policies, especially bylaws 2.5 and 2.7 and check that you understand all provisions concerning obligation to participate and site selection of ECAC championships.

Selection Dates:  Division III - Monday, March 1 (Committee's will meet between 11:00am and 2:00pm on Monday.)  All teams selected will be notified & match-ups will be posted online at www.ecacsports.com by 5:00pm on their respective Selection Monday.
