Alfred University - Director of Athletics
Position Summary
The Director of Athletics is responsible for managing Intercollegiate Athletics, Physical Education, Intramurals and Recreation, the Fitness Center, the athletics budget, and "Friends of Saxon Athletics" fundraising. The Director supervises all full- and part-time coaches and field athletic trainers, 1 ½ secretaries, a facilities manager, and several graduate assistants, interns and work-study students. AU has 19 Division III NCAA intercollegiate varsity sports in the Empire 8 conference.
Requirements
Formal Education: Master’s Degree
Experience: Minimum 8 Years
Additional Knowledge/Skills: Extensive athletics experience, staff development and supervision, facility management, ability to work effectively with alumni, recruiting, budget management and fundraising.
Job Responsibilities
1. Supervise the Intercollegiate Athletics and Intramural programs.
2. Oversee recruitment and retention of student-athletes
3. Provide leadership, motivation and strategic direction for the department.
4. Supervise 10 full-time coaches, a varying number of part-time and volunteer coaches and 15 graduate assistants.
5. Manage the athletic department budget.
6. Supervise athletic facilities.
7. Monitor and communicate rules, policies and procedures in compliance with NCAA and AU standards.
8. Engage in donor relations activities and strategies for the Intercollegiate Athletics program in conjunction with University Relations, including:
- Identification, cultivation, and solicitation of donors, including travel as appropriate
- Fiduciary responsibility for the Friends of Saxon Athletics fund
- Staff responsibility for Hall of Fame and other golf fundraising events as appropriate
- Stewardship, including preparation and mailing thank you letters for gifts received to FSA and general athletics funds.
- Review and revision of marketing, promotional and advertising programs of the FSA
9. Assess effectiveness of athletics program, student learning, and student-athlete satisfaction.
10. Supervise implementation of the Champs/LIFESKILLS program and develop additional ways of integrating student-athletes into campus life.
11. Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
