Adelphi's McKee and Devito named 2012 ECAC Division II Scholar Athlete Award Winners

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Record-setting performers Erica Devito and Corey McKee of Adelphi University have been named the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Scholar-Athletes of the Year.  Devito, a lacrosse player, and McKee, a swimmer will be feted at the 2012 ECAC Honors dinner held in conjunction with the 24th Annual ECAC Convention and Trade Show that will be held September 29-October 2 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa in Groton, Conn.  The Honors Dinner is slated for Sunday evening, September 30.

Devito was the leading scorer for Adelphi from her attack position during her senior season with team-highs of 63 goals and 39 assists. She also led the team with 38 draw controls.  Devito had three game winning goals for the 16-3 Panthers.

For her career, Devito scored 270 goals and dished out 109 assists.  She holds Adelphi career records for goals and points scored (379).  She was a four-time first team conference all-star, who during her first season with the Panthers was the East Coast Conference Rookie of the week eight times.  Not surprisingly, she was the ECC Rookie of the Year and earned her first of three first-team Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America honors.  She was a second team IWLCA pick as a sophomore.  As both a first-year and a sophomore, Devito was named to the NCAA Division II Championship All-Tournament Team.

A Speech and Language Pathology major, Devito was chosen a first-team Capital One Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) her senior year.  She was an ESPN:  The Magazine Academic All-District third team pick her sophomore year. As both a sophomore and senior, Devito was a member of the NE-10 Academic All-Conference Team.

McKee holds nine Adelphi University school swimming records and has earned multiple awards over the course of his four-year career.  A swimming “jack of all trades”, McKee holds records in three different strokes.

The 2012 Northeast-10 champion in the 100 meter butterfly, McKee was no stranger to competing in championship meets.  He qualified as a freshman for the NCAA Division II Championships where he competed in the 100 and 200 butterfly.  His 16th place finish in the 100 race earned McKee Honorable Mention All-America laurels and scored the first point for Adelphi in the meet in recent history.  McKee set the Adelphi record in the 100 at the NCAA’s, a record that stood until he broke it again in 2012 at the Northeast-10 championship meet.  His 50.68 was the second best time ever at the NE-10 Championships.

Also holding Adelphi records in the 200 fly, the 100 and 200 backstroke, and as a member of five school relay teams, McKee was twice named the NE-10 men’s swimmer of the Week during the 2010-2011 season.  The Adelphi 200 Medley Relay team set the school record of 1:36.70 at the 20121 NE-10 Championships where McKee led off with the backstroke leg.

A Finance major, McKee was a two time selection to the Northeast-10 Winter Academic All-Conference Team.  He plans on a career as a financial analyst.

One male and one female student-athlete from each division are selected annually for the scholar-athlete awards based on extraordinary achievements in academics, athletics, and community service.
