ECAC Announces a New Partnership with The Zenith Group
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC®) announced today that the conference has reached a one-year agreement with The Zenith Group to help provide ECAC members with travel planning to ECAC championship events. The Zenith Group will work with ECAC member schools to provide discounted hotel rooms at pre-determined ECAC team and individual championship sites.

Williams Named ECAC Jostens Institution of the Year
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Williams College has been selected as the winner of the 2010 ECAC Jostens Institution of the Year award. The award is given annually to the ECAC institution that best exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate academic and athletic performance. The Ephs will receive their award on Tuesday, September 28, at the ECAC Honors Banquet presented by Jostens. Presenting the award will be Jim Dougher, Jostens National Sports Manager and long-time supporter of the ECAC. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2010 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show. Williams has previously won the award in 1995, 1999, 2001, 2004, and 2009. With six crowns in the 16-year history of the award, Williams has won the award more than any other institution. Princeton, a winner in 1996 and 1998, is the only other school to win the coveted prize more than once.

Sharon Beverly and Mark Corino Named ECAC Jostens Administrators of the Year
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Sharon Beverly, Director of Athletics at Vassar College, and Mark Corino, Executive Director of Athletics at Caldwell College, have been selected as the recipients of the 2010 ECAC Jostens Administrators of the Year award. The ECAC Jostens Male and Female Administrators of the Year awards are presented annually to administrators from ECAC member schools or conferences in recognition of outstanding or meritorious service to the ECAC. They will receive their awards on Tuesday, September 28, at the ECAC Honors Banquet presented by Jostens. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2010 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show.

Kevin McGoff Wins ECACs George Shiebler Award
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Kevin McGoff has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 George Shiebler Award presented by Rotasole. He will receive his award on Tuesday, September 28, at the ECAC Honors Banquet presented by Jostens. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2010 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show. The George L. Shiebler Award is presented annually to an ECAC official who has demonstrated dedication to his avocational activities. The award is named after George L. Shiebler, former ECAC commissioner, in honor of his leadership over the many years he was associated with Eastern collegiate athletics.

Harvards Patricia Henry Named ECAC Katherine Ley Award Winner
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Patricia Henry of Harvard has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 Katherine Ley Award. Established in 1983, the award honors an ECAC woman athletics administrator who exemplifies the values and characteristics displayed by Katherine Ley. It recognizes someone of demonstrated leadership ability, a proponent of women's issues and a role model for women coaches and administrators. She will receive her award on Tuesday, September 28, at the ECAC Honors Banquet presented by Jostens. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2010 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show.

ECAC Announces Six Scholar-Athlete Award Winners
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today the six recipients of the ECAC Scholar-Athlete Awards. The ECAC Scholar-Athlete Awards honor the outstanding academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes representing ECAC schools in Divisions I, II, and III. One male and one female student-athlete from each division are selected based on extraordinary achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. This years winners of the ECAC Scholar-Athlete Awards are Jill Davis (LaSalle University) and Jeff Spear (Columbia University) in Division I, Kyrie Timbrook (Caldwell College) and Gregory Malen (Southern Connecticut State University) in Division II, and Kerrin Epstein (Gettysburg College) and Scott Desmond (Clarkson University) in Division III. They will receive their awards on Tuesday, September 28, during the ECAC Honors Banquet presented by Jostens. 2011 ECAC Fall Softball Classic to be Held September 18-19
Cape Cod, Mass. - The ECAC will hold its annual Fall Softball Classic September 18-19, 2011 at the Hoyle Elementary School Softball Field Complex in Swansea, Mass. The event invites ECAC member institutions and regional junior colleges that sponsor the sport of softball to participate in this competitive pre-season event. The ECAC softball officiating bureau also uses the event as an evaluation and recruitment tool for ECAC softball umpires.

NCAA Awards Frozen Four to Philadelphia in 2014; ECAC Will Serve as Host
The NCAA Division I Mens Ice Hockey Committee has announced the host sites for the 2013 and 2014 Mens Frozen Four. Pittsburgh, Pa., will host the 2013 Mens Frozen Four at the Consol Energy Center, while Philadelphia, Pa., will serve as the host for the 2014 championship at the Wachovia Center. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) will serve as the host for the event on April 10 and 12, 2014.

Ashley Wills Named ECAC Administrative / Events Coordinator
Commissioner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rudy Keeling announced the hiring of Ashley Wills as the Administrative/Events Coordinator. In her new role, Wills will be responsible for assisting in the coordination and organization of the ECAC trade show and convention; assisting with specials events such as the Eastern College Football Banquet; and working on special projects as assigned by the commissioner and assistant commissioner for finance.

Paul Schlickmann, a former ECAC Bushnell Intern, has been named the new Director of Athletics at Central Connecticut State University. Schlickmann, 44, comes to New Britain from Stony Brook University, where he was the Executive Associate Director of Athletics.

ECAC Announces Fee Freeze for 2010-11
In the ECAC's ongoing efforts to annually contain officiating costs for our member institutions, ECAC Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced that officiating bureau fees will not increase in the 2010-11 athletic year and will remain the same as the fees paid during the current 2009-10 year. The ECAC also froze several other fees for the upcoming year.

ECAC's Gordon Morton Named Outstanding SID by All-American Football Foundation
ECAC Director of Marketing and Communications Gordon Morton was honored with the Scoop Hudgins Outstanding Sports Information Director Award by the All-American Football Foundation at the 101st All-American Football Foundation Banquet of Champions on October 6 at the Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis. The award is given by the Foundation to those who excel in their efforts to promote the game of football. Morton currently administers the historic Lambert Meadowlands Football Poll for the ECAC and also coordinates the Eastern College Football Award Banquet each year at the Meadowlands.

Dr. Myles N. Brand, visionary leader, educator and reformer, who was serving as President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has died after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 67.

The award is given annually to the ECAC institution that best exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate academic and athletic performance. They will receive their awards on Tuesday, October 6, at the ECAC Honors Luncheon presented by Jostens. Presenting the award will be Jim Dougher, Jostens National Sports Manager and long-time supporter of the ECAC. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2009 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show. Williams has previously won the award in 1995, 1999, 2001, and 2004, and is the only five-time winner in the 15-year history of the award. Brown University Wins Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy for Third Consecutive Year
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Brown University has earned the 2009 ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy. It is the third consecutive year that the Bears have won the ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy. The ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy is given annually to the ECAC college or university mens and womens rowing programs that best demonstrate the core values of the ECAC (tradition, diversity, and service), and the values of Turfer Athletic (determination, perseverance, resilience, and commitment). The award is based on the total overall performance of the teams varsity, second varsity, and novice eights at the EARC and EAWRC Sprints, including mens heavyweight and lightweight entries, and womens open weight entries. The Bears will receive the trophy on Tuesday, October 6, at the ECAC Honors Luncheon presented by Jostens. The luncheon will be held at The Resort and Conference Center at Hyannis, Massachusetts during the 2009 ECAC Fall Convention and Trade Show.

Commissioner Keeling Featured in Diverse Issues in Higher Education
Throughout his three-decades-long sports career, Rudy Keeling has been a builder. As basketball head coach at the University of Maine at Orono, he reinvigorated a languishing team. Years later, at Bostons Emerson College, he completely revamped the sports program as athletic director. Now, Keeling is working hard to return the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) to something closer to its former glamour. When he was appointed ECAC commissioner in 2007, he was the first African-American ever to head a major sports conference.

ECAC Hosts Senegal Sports Exchange Delegation
On Thursday, March 19, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce will welcome the Senegal Sports Exchange Delegation to Cape Cod. The delegation traveled to the United States as part of the YES with Africa (Youth Education and Sports) program at UMass Boston. The program is a multiethnic, coeducational, sports and leadership development program administered in conjunction with the Department of Africana Studies at UMass Boston and is currently based in the West African countries of Senegal and Benin.

ECAC Announces Officiating Fee Freeze
In the ECAC's ongoing efforts to annually contain officiating costs for our member institutions, ECAC Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced that officiating game/contest fees will not increase in the 2009-2010 athletic year and will remain the same as the fees paid during the current 2008-2009 year. In light of the projected budget cuts that every athletic department is facing, coupled with the protracted economic downturn for the foreseeable future, this is the ECAC's way of demonstrating our assistance and support to the institutions enrolled in our 12 officiating bureaus.

Four New Members Voted Into ECAC
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling and ECAC President Dan Mara have announced Lesley University, Gallaudet University, State University of New York at Cobleskill, and Hampton University have been voted into membership in the Eastern College Athletic Conference for the 2009-10 academic year. With the addition of those four schools, the ECACs membership increases to 319 colleges from Maine to North Carolina. The conference has 90 members in Division I, 40 members in Division II, and 189 members in Division III.

ECAC to Hold Night with the Olympians at Annual Convention
In conjunction with its upcoming annual convention and trade show in Albany, N.Y., the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), will be hosting two events honoring Olympians who were former ECAC student-athletes. Already confirmed for the event are Jeff Blatnick (Springfield College), Bill Cleary (Harvard University), John Gregorek (Georgetown University), Michelle Guerette (Harvard University/Radcliffe College), Jason Morris (Syracuse University), Zara Northover (Northeastern University) and Helen Resor (Yale University). Combined, those seven Olympians were selected to 14 Olympic teams and won six medals, including two golds and three silvers.

107th Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships to be held in Sacramento
CAPE COD, Mass. - Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Board of Stewards announced today that the 107th IRA Championships will be held June 4-6, 2009 on Lake Natoma, in Gold River, Calif. The championships will be hosted by the Sacramento Sports Commission and the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, and will be administered by the Aquatic Center Staff and the ECAC. The University of Wisconsin will look to defend its 2008 crowns in the heavyweight mens eight and lightweight womens eight, while Cornell will try to repeat as champions in the lightweight mens eight. Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that William P. Sapelli will be honored with the George L. Shiebler Award at the 2008 ECAC Honors Dinner on Sunday, September 28 at the Crowne Plaza in Albany, N.Y. The George L. Shiebler Award is presented annually to an ECAC official who has demonstrated dedication to his avocational activities. The award is named after George L. Shiebler, former ECAC commissioner, in honor of his leadership over the many years he was associated with Eastern collegiate athletics.

Brown University Wins 2008 ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Brown University has earned the 2008 ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy. It is the second straight year that the Bears have won the ECAC Turfer Athletic Rowing Trophy. The award is given annually to the ECAC college or university mens and womens rowing programs that best demonstrate the core values of the ECAC (tradition, diversity, and service), and the values of Turfer Athletic (determination, perseverance, resilience, and commitment).

ECAC Announces Six Robbins Scholar-Athlete Award Winners
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today the six recipients of the ECAC Robbins Scholar-Athlete Awards. Sponsored by the Cincinnati-based sports surfaces company, the Robbins Scholar-Athlete Awards honor the outstanding academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes representing ECAC schools in Divisions I, II, and III. One male and one female student-athlete from each division are selected based on extraordinary achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. This years winners of the ECAC Robbins Scholar-Athlete Awards are Sue Weber (Hofstra) and Jeff Grantham (St. Johns University) in Division I, Dely Francisco (Adelphi) and Steve Dagostino (College of St. Rose) in Division II, and Ashley VanVechten (University of Rochester) and Michael Hoffman (Stevens Institute of Technology) in Division III. They will receive their awards on Sunday, September 28, at the ECAC Convention Honors Dinner at the Albany Crowne Plaza.

ECAC Soccer Referee John Buckley Inducted into National Soccer Hall of Fame
Dr. John Buckley, an ECAC Soccer referee since 1969, was inducted into The National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, N.Y. on August 2, 2008. He was part of a class of inductees that included legendary North Carolina women's coach, Anson Dorrance as well as Indiana men's coach, Jerry Yeagley. Buckley has done over 1500 matches in his collegeiate career, including refereeing seven NCAA Final Fours.

URI's Lauren Anderson Wins Katherine Ley Award
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Commissioner Rudy Keeling announced today that Lauren Anderson of the University of Rhode Island has been selected as the recipient of the Katherine Ley Award. Established in 1983, the award honors an Eastern woman athletics administrator who exemplifies the values and characteristics displayed by Katherine Ley. The award honors someone of demonstrated leadership ability, a proponent of womens issues and a role model for women coaches and administrators. Anderson will receive the award on Sunday, September 28, at the ECAC Convention Honors Dinner at the Albany Crowne Plaza.

ECAC Names Chad Dwyer and Michael Letzeisen Directors of Sport Administration
Commissioner Rudy Keeling has named Chad Dwyer and Michael Letzeisen as Directors of Sport Administration. Dwyer has spent the past year as the Asa S. Bushnell Intern for Championships, while Letzeisen has worked as the Assistant Director of Ice Hockey and Rowing since June of 2007.

Washington Repeats As National Champions at 106th IRA
Camden County, N.J. The University of Washington earned 214 points to capture its second consecutive, sixth overall, Jim Ten Eyck Trophy (overall points) at the 106th Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships June 5-7 at the Cooper River in Camden County, New Jersey. The Badgers of the University of Wisconsin earned gold in the Mens Varsity Eight and the Womens Varsity Lightweight Eight. Cornell University captured its third consecutive Mens Varsity Lightweight Eight Title.

Wisconsin and Cornell Earn Top Trophies at 63rd EARC Sprints
Worcester, Mass. The University of Wisconsin captured gold in three of five heavyweight events at the 63rd EARC Sprints on Sunday, May 18 at Lake Quinsigamond (Worcester, Mass.) to earn the Rowe Cup Trophy for the first time since 1946. The Big Red of Cornell University finished with 33 points in the Jope Cup (overall lightweight trophy) to earn the title for the first time since 1992.

Former ECAC Supervisor of Football Officials Continues to Serve
CAPE COD, Mass. -- Not even two types of cancer could keep Dennis Redding off the football field. A referee of Pee Wee, high school and college football for more than 30 years, the South Yarmouth resident had to call it quits after being diagnosed 5 years ago with a malignant melanoma and renal cancer. But that didn't stop his involvement in the sport.

Former ECAC Assistant Commissioner Dan Ghormley died suddenly at home in Hyannis on Dec. 26, 2007. Ghormley had a long career in coaching and athletic administration and worked at the ECAC from 1989-1997.
