CAPE COD, Mass. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC®) announced today that the conference has joined the social networking websites, Facebook and Twitter. The ECAC has launched three Facebook fan pages, "The Official Page for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)," "The Official Page for ECAC LACROSSE" and "The Official Page for ECAC DIII HOCKEY." The official ECAC Twitter page is entitled "ECACchamps." The ECAC wants to invite all member institutions, conferences and affiliates to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
"I am very excited for the ECAC to utilize Facebook and Twitter," said ECAC Commissioner Rudy Keeling. "Social networking sites are an important way to connect with our fans and members and the ECAC wants to take full advantage of them. The ECAC strives to be as current as possible and being able to provide information and promote the ECAC through Facebook and Twitter is one way the ECAC is keeping up with emerging forms of communication."
"The Official Page for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)" is the all encompassing Facebook fan page for the ECAC. This page will allow the ECAC to promote ECAC championships and recognize championship winners as well as provide daily reminders about declaration deadlines and serve as an outlet for announcements such as players of the week and other items. The goal of the ECAC's Facebook fan page is to provide fans with the most up to date information about the ECAC.
The ECAC Lacrosse League has a Facebook fan page entitled "The Official Page for ECAC LACROSSE." This page will provide fans with information surrounding the ECAC Lacrosse League and the eight teams that play in the league including Air Force, Bellarmine, Denver, Fairfield, Hobart, Loyola (Md.), Ohio State and Quinnipiac. The goal of this page is to promote the ECAC Lacrosse League as a whole by posting exciting game clips, highlighting team achievements and keeping our member institutions, players and fans up to date on ECAC announcements.
"The Official Page for ECAC DIII HOCKEY," is the Facebook fan page for all five of the ECAC Division III Ice Hockey playing leagues. This fan page will promote the Men's East, Women's East, Northeast, Men's West and Women's West by highlighting each league, member institutions and players from those institutions. The Facebook fan page was created to recognize achievements of players within the playing leagues and to serve as an outlet of communication to fans and member institutions.
The Twitter page "ECACchamps" is the all encompassing page that publishes all the posts from each of the three ECAC Facebook fan pages. The ECACchamps Twitter page will allow the ECAC to follow member institutions and conferences as well as allow us to promote the ECAC, publish reminders, make announcements and recognize achievements of ECAC member institutions and players from those institutions.
The ECAC recognizes that social networking websites are becoming more prevalent as a form of communication between many different entities. Twitter and Facebook allow the ECAC instant access to news highlights posted by member institutions, affiliates, and other conferences and media sources.
