ECAC MEMBERSHIP APPROVES AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTION

Cape Cod, Mass. - After formal discussion by Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) delegates and its Board of Directors at the recent ECAC Convention, several amendments to the ECAC Constitution were adopted.

One of the proposed amendments, Article Four-membership, Section VI-re-election to membership, specified that a reapplication fee will now be assessed as determined by the Board when institutions or conference/league offices seek to reapply for membership to the ECAC. The amended bylaw is as follows:

If an institution or conference/league office has resigned its active membership in the ECAC and
subsequently applies to re-establish its conference membership, such application shall be referred to the Board of Directors for consideration. A favorable two-thirds vote of the Board members present and voting shall be required to elect the applicant into the Conference, effective the following September 1 or the date of the next annual ECAC membership business meeting. A reapplication fee will be assessed as determined by the Board.

In addition, a change to Article Four-membership, Section VIII-C-officiating services, has also been approved.  During the vote to pass the proposed legislation as a package, there was discussion and a formal vote by delegates to separate Section VIII-C from the package; however, the vote was defeated and the proposed legislation as a package was voted on and passed by delegates. ECAC delegates decided non-member colleges who would like to use the ECAC officiating services will be charged two times the ECAC member fee amount. The revised bylaw is as follows:

Any four-year college which is not a member of the ECAC, but which is affiliated with another recognized conference or league, the majority of whose members are also members of the ECAC, may be provided with Conference officiating assignment services on such terms and conditions as the appropriate ECAC officiating assignment bureau may prescribe. These non-member colleges will be charged two times the amount for officiating services.
