Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Coordinator Bill Christy Passes at Age 67

William A. Christy, 67, of Monongahela, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 13, 2009, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

He was born July 9, 1942, in Fredericktown, a son of the late Harry and Annetta Haver Christy.

He was a 1960 graduate of Beth Center High School and earned a degree in history from California State Teachers College and received a master's degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Christy worked from 1967 to 1997 for the Department of Public Welfare in Washington, until his retirement. He was a member and manager of world champion Sol-Mintz USSSA softball team in Washington. During the 1970s, he was a member of USSSA and Washington County Sports Hall of Fame. Highlights of his officiating career included officiating in the NAIA National Softball Championship and the PIAA volleyball, softball and basketball state championship games. He also served as an NCAA basketball, softball, and volleyball sports official and was supervisor of officials for the COA, ECAC, PIAA, WVIAC and PSAC. Most recently, he served as an official technical advisor for several Division I, II and III basketball and volleyball conferences. Everything he accomplished as an official and supervisor was for the betterment of the game and more importantly, the student athletes.

Surviving are three children, Christopher M. Christy of Warrenton, Va., Tricia and husband Ron Celaschi of Belle Vernon and Haverly and husband Jon Ramaci of Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren, Dominic and Gabrielle Celaschi and Benjamin Ramaci; mother of his children, Patricia Christy of Beallsville; and a stepson, Joseph D. Ring and wife Dawn Davis and their children, Darrian Wyandt and Chance and Braidy Ring, all of Monongahela.
Deceased are his wife, Lorene M. Christy, who passed away May 16, 2009; a brother, Mac Christy; an aunt, Genevieve Haver; and an infant son.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched, especially his grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, in St. Anthony Catholic Church, Monongahela, with Father Joseph Feltz as celebrant. Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, is in charge of the arrangements.
