ECAC Announces 2010 Rowing Championships Dates

CAPE COD, MASS. - Eastern College Athletic Conference Commissioner Rudy Keeling is pleased to announce the dates for the six ECAC Rowing Championships to be held during the spring of 2010. 

On Saturday, May 1 the ECAC Metro Rowing Championships will return for the third year to the Cooper River (Camden County, N.J.), while the New England Rowing Championships and New England Four's will be held in Worcester, Massachusetts on Lake Quinsigamond.

The ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) returns to Lake Quinsigamond under a new format.  The Stewards of the ECAC NIRC have restructured the championship to run as a one-day event which will take place on Sunday, May 9.

The 37th annual Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints and 65th annual Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Sprints will be held on Sunday, May 16.  The EAWRC Sprints will take place at the Cooper River while the EARC Sprints will be held at Lake Quinsigamond.

After being held on the West Coast for the first time, the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships will return to the East Coast in 2010.  The 108th IRA will be held June 3-5 at the Cooper River.  This will mark the sixteenth time the IRA will be held on the Cooper River.

Established in 1938, the ECAC, a non-profit service organization, sponsors nearly 100 championships in 37 men's and women's sports, assigns more than 4,400 officials in 12 sports, administers nine affiliate sports organizations and six playing leagues and recognizes more than 2,000 student-athletes through the public relations arm of the conference. The ECAC serves as the primary conference for select members in the sports of men's and women's ice hockey, and men's lacrosse.
